The SA Paving Project Installation Process

1. SA PAVING BRICKS AND TEAM ARRIVE ON SITE
SA Paving only purchase first grade, SABS approved bricks from established suppliers and in line with our quality commitment to you.
We offer the best products currently available in the marketplace, with a range that extends from pavers to outdoor tiling.
Prior to the teams’ arrival, you will receive a call from the team leader confirming the commencement date.
Our team arrives on-site well prepared to take on any project.
All teams are trained to the highest standards and work according to a detailed procedures manual which in turn is monitored by our extremely experienced quality controllers.
SA Paving has set the highest standards in the industry for the past Four Decades and we are committed to providing you with SERVICE EXCELLENCE and QUALITY WORKMANSHIP at all times.
2. PLANNING THE LAYOUT OF THE PROJECT
We invite you to participate with the layout on commencement, however, the teams generally proceed with the agreed planned sketch.
Our quality controller retains a copy of the sketch until the project is complete.
This is done to ensure sound management throughout as well as a trouble free experience for our clients.

3. LIFTING THE EXISTING SURFACE AND SCARIFYING THE SOIL
Before the pavers can be laid it is vital that the existing surface is lifted and prepared in such a way that a solid base and correct levels are achieved, ensuring trouble-free drainage.
Once the existing surface has been uplifted, the soil is then scarified to a depth of no less than 150mm.
The levels are then adjusted to ensure correct water drainage.
Our teams are well equipped to ensure that your job is correctly prepared.
Please note: depending on the scenario, it may not always be necessary to uplift an existing surface as one may often leave existing concrete behind if the required levels permit.
Remember, the stronger the base the longer the base will last.
4. MOISTENING AND COMPACTING THE SCARIFIED BASE
Once the base has been scarified, the area is then moistened which allows for more thorough and proper compaction of the soil particles.
A plate compactor is passed over the base a minimum of three times, ensuring optimum strength.

5. PREPARING AND SCREEDING THE RIVER SAND BED
River sand is spread over the compacted base area, this is done to provide a cushion for the pavers to be laid on.
A straight edge is used to ensure the flatness of the area and of course to ensure the correct water drainage levels.
6. LAYING OF THE BRICKS IN THE DESIRED PATTERN
The pattern forms an important aspect of the project and can, for example; on a steep driveway, ensure a longer-lasting trouble-free installation.
Recommendations will be made to you by our professional consultants at the time of presentation.

7. CUTTING THE PAVERS TO TAILOR MAKE YOUR PAVING INSTALLATION
At SA Paving we believe in using the correct equipment to get the job done, you can well imagine how much cutting will need to be done to ensure a custom fit.
We only use angle grinders to ensure that the paving is cut with the utmost precision, leaving you with a neat and aesthetically pleasing final product.
8. CONSTRUCTING OUR UNIQUE CONCRETE EDGE BEAM
We are proud of our concrete edge restraint as we are the ONLY paving company that utilises steel to reinforce the edge beam, ensuring the highest standard of quality.
This procedure is vital to the stability of your project and must be done correctly.
Our edge beam is constructed below the header course (border brick) of your paving to a thickness of 60mm.
Brick force is then inserted in the middle of the edge beam, ensuring maximum strength.
Our continual desire to innovate and improve has given us the EDGE!

9. WET GROUTING AND FINAL COMPACTION
A mixture of plaster sand and cement is used to grout butt joint paving.
This process ensures that the joints between the pavers are well sealed.
Once the plaster sand and the cement have been well mixed, it is then evenly spread across the paving. A plate compactor is then used to ensure that the grouting fills all the joints between the pavers. All excess is then lightly hosed off the surface to ensure that no cement is left behind.
Our innovative, one-of-a-kind quick-drying cement additive allows for motor access after only 24 hours, instead of the usual 5 days. For added protection and colour enhancement, our sealer is offered as an optional extra.
Ants, unfortunately, could pose a problem in the long term as their ‘eat through anything’ attitude applies to the grout, but good product advice from your local hardware store will effectively and efficiently solve any and all ant problems you may have.
10. GENERAL TIDYING UP AND RUBBLE REMOVAL
We respect your property as if it were ours!
As a final touch, the immediate surrounding area where the paving has been installed is raked and cleaned up.
One must, however, keep in mind that owing to the nature of wet cement it is difficult to completely clean flower beds and this would require your attention approximately four days after the installation is complete.
Finally, all excess rubble is removed.
